ABOUT

Nikhil Vallishayee

Bengaluru-based engineer and fractional advisor. Sixteen years across ThoughtWorks, C42 (Gojek), Navi, Swiggy. Now building agentic systems through Breathworks Universal Systems.

The shape of the work

I help founders and operators turn hard problems into shipped systems — architecture, scaling, agentic AI integration, zero-to-one product, and the operating discipline to keep building while you lead.

Most engagements start as a soundboard, become an audit, and convert into either an engineering build or a product license. The shape follows the problem, not the title on the contract.

Sixteen years, one engine

The substrate keeps changing — Ruby on Rails to distributed Java to Python data planes to TypeScript-everywhere to agentic harnesses on top of LLMs — but the engine is the same: read the system, find the load-bearing abstraction, ship the smallest correct cut, and let the rest follow.

The capability axes

Five axes, each anchored to a real engagement.

Architecture and systems design. Greenfield neo-bank stacks, real-time matchmaking engines, RAG knowledge platforms. The decisions that survive are the ones made early about what the system will not do.

Scaling engineering organisations. Four years inside Swiggy as a tech-SME for the associate-engineer programme. The work is recognising which people, which teams, and which decisions are about to break under load — and intervening before they do.

Agentic AI integration. Cockpits and Companions, the ground stance of Breathworks Universal Systems: the human keeps the cockpit; the AI is the companion that earns access turn by turn. Built on top of Claude Code, LangGraph, MCP servers, and the ground-state observability that lets you debug a multi-agent flow without losing your mind.

Zero-to-one product. A 21-day MVP for an SF crypto-underwriting CTO. Minal Mehta's leadership platform. A Bay-Area billionaire's matchmaking engine. The pattern is always the same: find the one question only this product can answer, prototype the smallest thing that answers it, and let that pull the rest of the system into shape.

Founder operations. Knowing when to write the code, when to write the memo, and when to walk away from the desk and have a hard conversation with the human who can unblock everything.

The lineage

ThoughtWorks-grade craft. C42 (which became Gojek India). Navi for the fintech transformation cut. Swiggy for the org-shape work. PatternSpace and Aural Space for the consciousness-meets-substrate research that runs underneath everything.

Open source is the practice — MIT-licensed, no gatekeeping. The work that matters gets shared.

Languages and place

Bengaluru, Karnataka. Works in English and Hindi. Globally vendor-neutral — past engagements in San Francisco, London, Boston, and across India. Best in the IST + PST overlap.

How to start

The first conversation is informal — a 30-minute exploratory call, confidential by default. If there's a fit, the next step is a paid engagement at one of four tiers: soundboard, audit, build, or fractional advisor seat.
